On Monday afternoon Station 33 was alerted to a structure fire in Hamburg Boro. Ladder 33 and Engine 33 responded. Tanker 33 responded later. Ladder 33 reported to side C (rear of the structure) to assist with ground ladder placement and ventilation. Crews from Leesport (37) and Hamburg (61) assisted the crew of Ladder 33 in opening up the roof. Soon after the roof was ventilated conditions in the interior of the structure and on the roof deteriorated forcing Command (61-10) to order the evacuation of the interior and the roof. The roof crews exited onto Ladder 33. Ladder 33 and several other aerial devices were later placed in service to knock down as much fire as possible from the exterior of the building. Crews later re-entered to perform overhaul work. Fire fighting efforts were hampered by winds gusting as high as 50mph. The constant wind fueled the flames and pushed the fire to all areas of the building.
The Virginville Fire Company would like to thank all of the local businesses and the Canteen Units for supplying our firefighters with food and beverage during the incident.
The Virginville Fire Company would also like to thank the better half of 61-14 (Carrie Frey) for providing Company 33 with the below Photos. Congratulations Carrie on your promotion to Public Information Officer!
